Roger’s, Citytv, Leon’s and the Toronto Roundhouse.

Well it’s been an interesting day here in the heart of Toronto. We are on the verge of creating a broadcast power house out of Rogers, one that will be the forth largest in Canada, and hopefully good for the public. At the same time groups of concerned individuals are trying to block Leon’s from opening a downtown location in the historic Roundhouse at the foot of the Dome.

So, here is my suggestion to kill two birds with one stone, Rogers should buy the Roundhouse and turn it to a broadcast centre. They can move SportsNet in as well as some potentially new channels and create a great Toronto centre for local sports and news. It would be a great venue for outdoor activities on the green space and Rogers, with their deep pockets, can ensure that the historic value of the property is preserved and even toured as part of a fantastic broadcasting medium. And of coarse, next door to the Rogers Centre.

What its not enough for you that Ted has his hand on our throats as it is, plus he stole the Dome. Now you want him to have the Roundhouse. What for? This is a historic railroad building not a communications nor a furniture store outlet.
Typical of the short sightedness of the City of Toronto and the lack of anyone with any vision whatsoever on that entire team we will probably end up doing something stupid. This building should be fully funded by all levels of governemnt and in concert with a professional family entertainment group. You need companies with direct experience in this field to both design and operate. If you do not let private work with government you will end up with that pitiful yea may I say disgraceful Ontario Place Scenerio all over again. Been there lately for anything other than a concert..just what the hell is the place anyway…terrible. Ya were a long way off from ever being a world class anything!!!

Thanks for the comment Howard but I’d rather have a corporation, with deep pockets and under some restrictions, restore that important part of Toronto history than come out of my tax dollars. If Leon’s gets their claws into it, that will be it. At least with a communication facility Rogers could still have it open to the public.

This is all mute anyway as Rogers will not locate there. Perhaps you should contact your level of government and insist it be restored by the city that cannot afford to pick up garbage in the park.

I have been looking into the historic roundhouse for my final design project. This project involves taking a building and turning the space into a different use. I have chosen to change the roundhouse into a world class museum. For many reasons a museum seems more suited to the space, as well as the surroundings. It just makes sense!
Whatever happened to turning the remainder that Steam Whistle does not occupy into; a rail museum?
The worst thing the city could do is allow a furniture store like Leon’s take the space. Hopefully if Rogers broadcast center does take the space it will be in better hands then LEON’S!

The Roundhouse needs something that will benefit Toronto tourism, I am happy with the fact that Steam Whistle Brewery has acquired the space.
    Thats all.

I am also shocked and appalled that a big box store like Leon’s is occupying this beautiful historic building.

I think if Roger’s bought the Roundhouse, they’d SCREW us all and change it to the RogerHouse or something stupid like they did with the DOME!

Leons just cares about money and making it and so does the city we need to give them a hard time upon opening we need to show the people who cares if Leons is 100 i hope they fail i really do

Why doesn’t the city change the roundhouse park into a kind of distillery district, preserving the rail musuem and building, the steam whistle distillery goes right along with that whole theme. Furthermore being in the heart of the city, it should be more of a public entertainment space than a furniture store. Shame on David Miller! (for more reasons than one)

    Hello Everyone!

I have also decided to use the Roundhouse for my thesis project and I would love to hear your thoughts on its new occupancy (Leon’s). I am thinking of turning it into a Youth Wellness Centre. What do you think?
Please e-mail me your comments, they’re greatly appreciated!
